Take the Time....It will Save Time Later!

It takes time to delegate properly. Time you don’t have. However, if you never take time to invest in others, no one but you will ever have the time or knowledge to know what to do. You will always be able to do the task better and faster than the other person that you did not train.  Teaching someone else may take more time in the beginning, but ultimately it will save time. Others will be able to do this task in the future.  They will be ready for more responsibility.  Every task that you believe you cannot delegate, limits your potential for assuming additional responsibility. It is easy to fall into this trap.

Are you delegating as much as you should?

How can you save yourself time in the future by investing time to help someone to start on a task that you should delegate?

  • Time values our present and creates our future... The future that we chose with the time that we wisely spent.
  • Delegating authority and responsibilities is not easy at all. We are all control freaks one way or another. Some leaders do not only see the "what" to be achieved, but also the "how" an they are afraid of any new ways. Some others are afraid of trusting others simply because they are used to do it all. What makes it worse is to delegate and get disappointed by people's efficiency or behavior. It will make it very difficult to trust others and delegate again.

In USPEaK, we increased the level of resonsibility with time to staff. After 2005, as a founder, I only get weekly reports or consultations. It is very successful delegation that happened in my opinion and I am so proud of them all. I feel that I am still in Lebanon and I could sense the board's as well as the staff feeling of ownership.
